You will be amazed by the size and comfort of the five guest suites at The Nordic Pineapple Bed and Breakfast. Each offers a private spa-like bathroom with large walk-in showers and five are complete with a jetted tub. Each room is decorated in a comfortable, relaxing style that invites you to kick off your shoes, jump in bed and let your worries melt away.
Located in the small mid-Michigan town of St. Johns, The Nordic Pineapple offers lodging close to East Lansing, Mount Pleasant, and other points north and south.
The home that is now The Nordic Pineapple dates to 1861, when it was built by a Civil War general for the daughter of the city's founder. This gem is located blocks from the quaint small-town downtown shopping district where you can find little shops filled with special treasures, coffee, sweets and the area’s premier organic chocolate store.
This grand home is first and foremost a family home. Innkeepers Greg and Kjersten (the “j” is silent) want you to come, relax and put your feet up. We encourage you to leave your shoes at the door and find a quiet spot to cozy up with a good book, watch a great movie or just take a cat nap. When you walk through the door you become one of the family.
We offer a full-service breakfast in our large dining room. Weather-permitting, sit on the expansive porch and watch the day begin.
We hope you will come visit us for your next vacation, weekend getaway, family gathering, girls weekend, anniversary, wedding or just to get away from the hustle and bustle.
Greg and Kjersten are your hosts and are thoroughly enjoying the adventure of owning and operating a bed and breakfast. It had been a dream for many years, but the timing was never exactly right. We wondered whether we should wit until our younger kid finished with school but this was many years off. We also took into account the coordination effort it would require. Being happy with our careers and enjoying getting away to travel, how could we make a change? After Kjersten’s father passed away a few years back, we resolved to take a chance and start something new. Thus the journey began to become innkeepers.
Greg worked in the TSA as an Officer for the Grand Rapids airport. Ever the handyman, home improvement comes naturally like building the inn’s tables in the dining room. These custom tables can be used as a single large table when connected. We use them for group events like parties, reunions, and showers. He is our breakfast chef and takes care of the house’s laundry.
Kjersten works from home in the pharmaceutical industry as a programmer; happily this is flexible work that makes a great fit for someone running an inn. She gives Greg a hand with projects, but really shines as the decorator. One thing she really enjoys is baking and is the head baker for the bed and breakfast.
Our three amazing kids, two are adopted at birth and the other must declare us as his own. Our younger children are with us at the inn, so you’ll probably see them around during your stay.
Dallas is our oldest son. He works as an engineer in the automotive industry in Ferndale. Though we don’t get to see him often, we are super proud.
Garret is our younger son and is in ninth grade. His favorite sport is baseball and looks forward to getting to play on the school’s team.
Gracie is our daughter and is in seventh grade. She can be found either reading or writing stories.
In addition, our pets Misty and Gidget (cats) and Coco (little dog) live with us at the inn. Our cats enjoy greeting arriving guests and saying hi before breakfast. We’re all excited to welcome new people and hear about the places travelers have been. We look forward to your visit.
